Springfield Public Schools made a splash yesterday when they hosted the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Springfield event.
Wilson's Creek Intermediate School teacher Joshua Kennedy entered the event held at Hillcrest High School with SPS Superintendent John Jungmann showcasing their original back-to-school rap.
“When I say, ‘SP,’ you say, ’S,’” Kennedy raps on the mic in the school cafeteria. “I know you’re getting tired of going to the pool, so pack away your floaties, we’re going back to school.
“We’re gonna make it fun, the way it’s meant to be, teaching mad skills for the 21st century.”
Kennedy, you may have seen in a February article by the Springfield News-Leader, also came up with personalized handshakes for his students. This English and social studies teacher is pretty hip.
At the event yesterday, SPS also debuted a music video that features Kennedy rapping, along with appearances by Jungmann and school board members. Ever want to see Jungmann dance to hip hop and mime rap lyrics? Now’s your chance!

This morning, the video had gathered 791 YouTube views, more than 41,000 on Facebook and 6,798 on Twitter.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
