Men's clothing store Blackwells is relocating next month across from Battlefield Mall, after leasing its current location for nearly six years.
The 23-year-old business is slated to open April 1 at the Brentwood Center at the former Nancy Rose location, 2716 S. Glenstone Ave., according to Blackwells owner Rex Blackwell.
He said the 2,550-square-foot store leased from Gillenwaters Developers Inc. for an undisclosed amount would better serve the needs of Blackwells, which currently operates out of 1,750 square feet of space leased from Magers Enterprises at 900 E. Battlefield Road.
"Being across from the mall is probably a little more retail friendly than this area, plus I needed a little bigger space," Blackwell said, noting he has a good relationship with Magers Enterprises.
Starting Thursday, Blackwell said the store will be holding a moving sale until it closes March 23 on Battlefield Road.
Blackwell, who declined to disclose moving costs, said the new store would allow Blackwells to add new lines, as well as cultivate a more modern feel.
Blackwells, which sells items such as suits, ties and shoes, opened in early 1990. Prior to moving to its current location in Battlefield Marketplace, the
company had operated from 1907 S. Glenstone Ave. in Plaza Tower Shopping Center
