A BKD LLP executive has transitioned back to the nonprofit world via Springfield Little Theatre.
Marci Bowling started today as development director of the nonprofit theater. Bowling exited BKD as business development executive after starting with the company in 2008. Prior to working for the Springfield-based accounting firm, Bowling was development and public relations director for Developmental Center of the Ozarks for nearly 11 years. She’s also the founder of Watching Over Whiskers, a nonprofit rescue and foster initiative for cats, according to her
LinkedIn page.
At Springfield Little Theatre, Bowling succeeds Krystal Simon, who left in November to become development director for Camp Barnabas, said theater spokeswoman Lexy Saner.
“We are extremely pleased to have an experienced development professional join our talented staff. Marci brings many years of development experience along with her knowledge of the southwest Missouri area,” SLT board President Bill Mitchell said in a news release. “SLT will launch a capital campaign under her guidance. Securing funding for the preservation of the Landers Theatre is one of the facets of the capital campaign.”
Specifically, Bowling will be in charge of raising nearly $1 million in funds to address such needs as foundation repairs and a new HVAC system at the downtown Landers Theatre, 311 E. Walnut St. SLT has invested more than $400,000 during the past four years into the building it’s called home since 1970. Through operating revenues alone, SLT is unable to fund the maintenance, officials say. Before show expenses kick in, it costs the nonprofit organization $10,000 per week to keep the lights on, and royalties can cost more than $35,000. SLT puts on more than 100 performances for over 65,000 annual attendees, according to the release.
Fundraising isn’t new for Bowling.
While at Developmental Center of the Ozarks, she increased the nonprofit’s annual fundraising by $400,000 to $1.65 million, according to the release.
