French billionaires who pledged millions of dollars toward the reconstruction of Notre Dame have "yet to pay a penny," a cathedral spokesman said.
Instead, smaller pledges from French and American citizens are helping to pay for the work two months after a fire detroyed the cathedral's roof and caused its spire to collapse.
"The big donors haven't paid. Not a cent," said Andre Finot, a senior press official at Notre Dame. "They want to know what exactly their money is being spent on and if they agree to it before they hand it over, and not just to pay employees' salaries."
Kering CEO Francois-Henri Pinault is among those who have made pledges.
