Billionaire technology investor Robert Smith delivered the keynote address at Morehouse College, where he announced a surprise.
He said he would pay off the student loans for the nearly 400 graduating seniors. The debt is estimated at up to $40 million.
“On behalf of the eight generations of my family that have been in this country, we’re gonna put a little fuel in your bus," Smith said. “This is my class, 2019. And my family is making a grant to eliminate their student loans.”

Under construction beside the existing Republic branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District – which remains in operation throughout the project – is a new building that will double the size of the original, according to library officials.
