Bill would revoke scholarships of Mo. student athletes who strike

Posted online
Missouri Rep. Rick Brattin, R-Harrisonville, prefiled a bill seeking to revoke scholarships for any college athletes calling for, inciting, supporting or participating in a “strike or concerted refusal to play a scheduled game.”

House Bill 1743 comes roughly a month after the University of Missouri Tigers football team – with the full support of head coach Gary Pinkel – refused to play in a scheduled game unless school President Tim Wolfe resigned.

Brattin’s bill also would fine coaching staff for encouraging athletes to participate in a strike, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

If supported, the measure would go into effect on Aug. 28, 2016, prior to the start of the next football season.
