Veteran southwest Missouri banker Bill Owen has joined Bank of Bolivar to lead its planned expansion into Springfield.

Owen became a senior vice president with the Bolivar-based bank June 6 after serving more than five years as executive vice president with UMB Bank, where he focused on business development in Springfield.

Owen is working from Bank of Bolivar’s Fair Grove branch, but he hopes to have temporary space leased in Springfield within 90 days for a new branch. Bank of Bolivar is awaiting Missouri division of finance approval before it moves forward with plans for Springfield.

Bank of Bolivar President Brad Gregory said Owen’s connections and experience would help Bank of Bolivar build off its small customer base already in Springfield.

Bank of Bolivar, established in 1997, has $150 million in assets, about 55 employees and branches in Bolivar and Fair Grove.
