William Gates, the father of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, died Monday from Alzheimer's disease. He was 94.
A lawyer and philanthropist, Gates Sr. was influential in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He led its first efforts to improve global health, and he advocated for progressive taxation.
“My dad’s wisdom, generosity, empathy and humility had a huge influence on people around the world,” Bill Gates said in a tribute.
