The Safe and Sound Bridge Program expedites bridgework by allowing contractors to access the bonds needed for the projects, according to a news release from Blunt’s office. The bonds “will help protect the taxpayer by ensuring the work is completed by the contractors who fix and replace the bridges,” according to the release.
“Our bridge improvement plan will repair or replace more than 800 Missouri bridges with an innovative and original approach to provide faster results,” Blunt said in the release. “The plan we are enacting in Missouri has been touted as a national model to improve our transportation infrastructure.”

The bill passed in special session last month. Earlier this week, Blunt signed legislation, also passed in the special session, that increases the funding caps for the state’s Quality Jobs and Enhanced Enterprise Zone programs.
