BigShots acquired by Topgolf for $29M

Carlsbad, California-based Topgolf Callaway Brands Corp. (NYSE: MODG) is buying BigShots Golf in a deal that has local implications.

Topgolf is buying BigShots for $29 million from Invited Inc., according to a news release, which indicates the deal "includes four domestic venues, comprised of one owned venue and three franchise venues, as well as certain other development rights for other potential venues."

The deal includes Springfield-based O'Reilly Hospitality Management LLC's BigShots franchises in the Queen City and Fort Worth, Texas, said Kerrie Van Sickle, regional director of sales and public relations for O'Reilly Hospitality Management. The Springfield company's CEO, Tim O'Reilly, was unavailable for comment by deadline.

"We are essentially purchasing an additional off-course venue and the royalty stream from three franchise venues, including the option to convert those to Toptracer technology in the near future," said Chip Brewer, president and CEO of Topgolf Callaway Brands, in the release. "It is also just the beginning of what's possible when two great brands combine their resources and creativity to develop programs that foster growth and further fuel the momentum in our game."

The addition of TopTracer technology is the only expected change at this time for O'Reilly Hospitality Management's BigShots locations, said Van Sickle.

O'Reilly Hospitality Management's Springfield BigShots, located at 1930 E. Kearney St., opened in May 2021, according to past reporting. A former Kmart was demolished to make way for the 12-acre development at the intersection of Kearney and Glenstone Avenue, kitty-corner to O’Reilly Hospitality’s DoubleTree by Hilton development.

The company's Fort Worth location also opened in 2021.
