Big Lots steps in as Hostess thrift outlet

Big Lots is now the official thrift outlet for Twinkies and other Hostess snack cakes.

The Columbus, Ohio-based closeout retailer is now selling the snacks at reduced prices, stepping in for the thrift stores operated by Hostess until the company filed for bankruptcy and closed its factories in November 2012, according to the Herald-Dispatch.

When the new owners of Hostess started making snacks again in June, they reopened four plants but not the thrift stores. Twinkies and a number of other Hostess snack brands were purchased by a joint venture of Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co.
