Columbus, Ohio-based Big Lots has reached an agreement to be sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners.
Gordon Brothers Retail Partners will facilitate the transfer of Big Lots' brand, stores and distribution centers to other retailers and companies through the deal. Variety Wholesalers, the company behind Maxway and other stores, is buying between 200 and 400 Big Lots locations and up to two distribution centers.
Big Lots previously indicated that going-out-of-business sales were planned after a deal with private equity firm Nexus Capital Management fell through.
