Big Crowds for Big Smith

Posted online
Ozarks bluegrass band Big Smith performs in Jordan Valley Park on Aug. 12, coinciding with the premiere of “Homemade Hillbilly Jam,” a documentary that examines the band and musical traditions in the Ozarks. City officials estimate attendance at 4,000.

“It was the biggest turnout ever for a specific event such as a concert or film, compared to an all-day event,” said Louise Whall, Springfield public information director. “There was a great response to the film and the concert.”

Big Smith played in Jordan Valley Park’s inaugural concert when the park opened.

“Homemade Hillbilly Jam” is playing at The Moxie Cinema through Sept. 5.
