President Joe Biden on Thursday signed a bill into law to make June 19, known as Juneteenth, a national holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States.
"National holidays are something important," said Vice President Kamala Harris. "These are days when we as a nation have decided to stop and take stock and often to acknowledge our history."
Biden said the holiday recognized "America's original sin" and the country's capacity to "make a better version of ourselves."
