More than 40 million Americans could be assisted through a student loan forgiveness plan announced by President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
The plan calls on the erasure of $10,000 in federal student loan debt for those with incomes below $125,000 a year, or households that earn less than $250,000. Another $10,000 in student loan debt will be canceled for those who received federal Pell Grants to attend college.
Of the 43 million borrowers eligible for some debt forgiveness, some 20 million could get their debt erased entirely, according to the Biden administration.
