Best Buy reports surprise bump in same-store sales

Aided by strong demand for appliances and consumer electronics, Best Buy reported a surprise quarterly increase in same-store sales.

Shares jumped more than 15 percent to $37.88 in premarket trading on Tuesday.

Comparable-store sales rose 0.8 percent. Analysts predicted a 0.6 percent decrease.

Net income increased to $198 million from $164 million a year earlier.
