A Belgian racing pigeon sold for a world-record $1.9 million at auction.
The 2-year-old bird, named New Kim, took over the record previously held by another Belgian pigeon, Armando, which sold for $1.5 million last year.
“These record prices are unbelievable, because this is a female. Armando was a male," said Nikolaas Gyselbrecht, CEO of Pipa, the online auction house that conducted the sale. "Usually a male is worth more than a female because it can produce more offspring."
