What was the most significant development in your industry in the last year?

The filtration systems that are available now. These filtration systems are very effective in removing particles such as pollen, dust mites, dirt and pet dander, certain mold spores and bacteria, viruses and fungi. They also remove household odors, including cigarette smoke. Allergy sufferers and individuals who are sensitive to various chemicals or smells find these systems very effective in reducing symptoms caused by these types of irritants.

What do you feel is the biggest trend to watch for in your industry this year?

The HVAC industry is already gearing up for the changes that will be taking affect in 2006. Starting in 2006 the lowest SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) equipment will be 13. The market still has 10 and 12 SEER equipment available, but they are already being phased out in order to meet government regulations for efficiency. The standard warranties will be one year labor, five years on parts, 10 years on compressors and most of these units will have the new 410-A Freon instead of the R-22 Freon that most units have today.
