Drury University students and the Commercial Club
benefit from the event
The Beaux Arts Ball, held March 25 at Old Fire Station No. 2 on Commercial Street, drew a crowd of around 350 people and raised an estimated $13,000 from ticket sales, art donations and other donations, according to Drury University architecture student T.R. Harris, one of the committee chairs for Beaux Arts Ball 2000.
Proceeds, minus event costs, will be divided between the American Institute of Architecture Students at Drury and the renovation fund for the Commercial Club of Springfield Community Center at 299 E. Commercial.
The Beaux Arts Ball was first held in Springfield in 1995.
This year's event featured local artwork, auctioned off to the highest bidder, as well as a display of architecture students' visions for renovating Commercial Street.
Among the designs were models and diagrams for a permanent farmer's market facility at the base of the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge.
Renovation of the footbridge itself begins this month.
