Baxter International, a hospital products maker based in the Chicago area, announced the immediate retirement of its CEO and board chair.
José Almeida has been CEO since 2016. Board member Brent Shafer has been named chair and interim CEO.
Almeida's retirement announcement comes shortly after Baxter International sold its kidney care business for $3.7 billion.
