The owner of a Bavarian-style castle on heavily wooded property near Ste. Genevieve just can’t find a successful buyer.
Guenter Foerster, 76, has owned the estate in the heart of wine country for 35 years, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The property, including the 7,000-square-foot castle, has been on the market since 2009, originally listed for $3.2 million for a sum of 700 acres.
There have been deals, but contracts keep falling through – the last one by a group of German investors who wanted to turn the property into a beer garden.
According to the Post-Dispatch, Foerster has restructured the listing with two purchase options: $850,000 for 100 acres, including the castle with its lead-glass windows and hand-painted ceilings, or $1.5 million for an additional 270 acres and a rustic lodge.
“Do you know anyone with any money?” he asked the Post-Dispatch reporter, in a thick German accent.
