J. Buck’s is the first to sign on for the new development. Christine Moses, director of mall marketing at Battlefield Mall, said three others are close to confirming plans to lease space, and the remaining space will be divided as tenants show interest.
The restaurant also is the first in the chain to locate outside of the St. Louis area, where four already operate.
The 8,000-square-foot J. Buck’s features a casual, family-oriented atmosphere for lunch and dinner and has family ties to the St. Louis Cardinals. It is named after Hall-of-Fame Cardinals broadcaster Jack Buck.
“We wanted to test our concept outside of St. Louis, and we felt that the dynamic growth of the Springfield market would be a good fit,” said owner Ted Geiger in a news release. “And, the affiliation between the Springfield Cardinals and the St. Louis Cardinals just made sense.”
Battlefield Mall announced in February its multimillion-dollar plans to construct lifestyle center spaces along the mall’s east wing, providing tenants with exterior entrances and curbside appeal.
