Bass Pro's Memphis project delayed, includes alligator pit

Posted online
Bass Pro Shops officials announced last week that its $55 million Memphis, Tenn., Pyramid Outdoor World retail store, which was scheduled to open next month, is now slated to open May 1. When it does open, one of the store’s new features will be an 84,000-gallon pit with 20 alligators.

As part of a Nov. 6 media tour, officials revealed more details about the center’s restaurants, including a Sky High Catfish Cabin at the glass-enclosed top of the Pyramid, which seats 300. A second restaurant, Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill, is a 13-lane underwater bowling alley, dining and meeting area.

The iconic Pyramid will also feature a glass walkway that extends from the building sides and should be similar to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

To get to that view, Bass Pro is building the largest free-standing elevator in North America, according to the Memphis Business Journal.
