Bass Pro's Big Cypress Lodge lands on list of top 2015 hotels

Bass Pro Shops' Big Cypress Lodge inside the Pyramid in Memphis, Tenn., was named one of the 10 best hotels of 2015.

The list, which was compiled by travel writer Larry Olmsted for Forbes, was reported on by The Commercial Appeal.

The 103-room hotel, which debuted last April, features hand-hewn beams, its virtual fireplaces, animal mounts, jetted oversized tubs, fresh turn down cookies and "generous" welcome baskets of free snacks, according to Olmsted.

"This was the most memorable hotel opening of the year, if only for the sheer audacity and bizarreness of the undertaking. When staying here, it is very easy to forget you are inside, and especially bizarre at night, when the store closes and only hotel guests are in the vast pyramid," he said.
