Bass Pro to anchor large S.C. development

Posted online
Springfield-based outdoor megaretailer Bass Pro Shops has signed on as the anchor tenant in a 2 million-square-foot development in South Carolina.

The company's second store in the state, the North Charleston Outdoor World would be built to reach 130,000 to 150,000 square feet, anchoring the mixed-use Ingleside Plantation North development, according to a news release.

The Bass Pro announcement on Friday came a day after North Charleston City Council voted to back an incentives plan for the large-scale Ingleside development. The project is projected to bring in 700,000 out of-town visitors annually, according to the Charleston Regional Business Journal.

Construction on the Bass Pro store is set to begin next year, with an opening in 2015.

“By adding a Bass Pro Shops to this premier development in North Charleston, we hope to enhance this area’s rich tradition and long history of being a highly sought-after outdoor and tourist destination," Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris said in the release.

Bass Pro currently operates a store in Myrtle Beach, S.C., part of the chain's 83 stores and marine centers in the U.S. and Canada, the release said.
