Bass Pro signs letter of intent for first New Jersey store

Posted online
Springfield-based outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops has signed a letter of intent to lease a 200,000-square-foot retail store in Sayreville, N.J.

The store would be the first Bass Pro location in the state, Bass Pro spokesman Larry Whiteley said via e-mail.

The space is located within The Point, a $2 billion, 8 million-square-foot mixed-use development located in northern New Jersey, about 30 miles from Manhattan, N.Y., according to a news release from King of Prussia, Pa.-based O'Neill Properties Group, the developer behind The Point.

“The Point will be a pedestrian-friendly community providing visitors and residents alike with a lifestyle experience unequaled in the tri-state area,” said Brian O’Neill, founder and chairman of O’Neill Properties Group, in the release.  “Moreover, it will generate thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenue.”

Meanwhile, Bass Pro's 150,000-square-foot East Peoria, Ill., store currently under construction is on schedule for its September opening. East Peoria officials report that subcontract bids came under budget for the location, saving the city approximately $1.5 million, according to an East Peoria Times Courier report.
