Bass Pro Shops to add Memphis Pyramid to its business empire

Posted online
What to do with a 32-story glass pyramid that failed in its original duties as a sports arena? Lease it to an out-of-state hunting-business empire to turn into "Disneyland in a duck blind," according to the New York Times.

The Memphis Pyramid, built in the 1980s to house sporting events and concerts, was a bust from its opening show, when a restroom plumbing catastrophe sent sewage flowing onto the arena floor. It's been abandoned since 2007.

Enter Missouri-based Bass Pro Shops, which plans to stock the 535,000-square-foot site with a cypress-swamp-themed hotel, shooting and archery ranges, aquariums of fish and live alligators and a bowling alley designed to appear as if it is under water. Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid is slated to open next spring.
