Bass Pro Shops given two week deadline on Buffalo, N.Y. proposal

Posted online
Springfield-based Bass Pro Shops was issued a 14-day deadline by New York state Rep. Brian Higgins (N.Y.-27) yesterday to make a decision about the company's store proposal on the waterfront in Buffalo, N.Y.

In 2004, Bass Pro announced the Aud site, which was formerly the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, as the location for its store, according to a Higgins news release.

Higgins said waterfront development in Buffalo and western New York is already in the works.

“Great progress is visible, construction trucks and people are working, the public excitement is building and well over a hundred million dollars is available for economic development at the Inner Harbor alone," he said in the release. "Bass Pro should certainly want to be a part of it and today we are calling on them to make that commitment.”

In the letter, Higgins called for Bass Pro CEO John Morris and President James Hagale to make a quick decision, saying that the site would be leased elsewhere if they didn't respond.

Bass Pro Shops had no official comment on the letter.
