Bass Pro makes layoffs at HQ

Posted online
Bass Pro Shops recently laid off less than 20 people from its Springfield administrative offices, according to a company spokesman.

Jack Wlezien, director of communications for Bass Pro, said all impacted employees were given severance packages. He did not disclose what types of positions were cut.

“As we evaluate the dramatically shifting retail landscape, we recently eliminated certain positions and reduced staff to continue providing our customers with the best value and service,” he said via email.“We continue to outperform other retailers and these actions, while difficult, are intended to keep the company healthy and strong.

Just over two years ago, Bass Pro cut a similar amount of jobs at its headquarters and its Nixa fabrication shop. That followed 500 nationwide layoffs that year.
