Bass Pro Shops chose the leader of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency as its Conservation Partner of the Year.

Ed Carter, executive director of the TWRA, joins a list that includes former Presidents George H. W. Bush and Jimmy Carter in receiving the honor, according to a news release from the state agency.

Carter, who recently completed his term as president of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, also received the association’s lifetime achievement award this year.

Executive director of the TWRA since 2009 and an employee of the organization since 1972, Carter received the Bass Pro award for his years of service advocating for conservation, according to the release.

The TWRA is designed to manage wildlife and habitat programs in Tennessee, according to its website.

A release provided to Springfield Business Journal shows Fred Smith, founder and CEO of FedEx, also was presented the Conservation Partner of the Year award.
