Springfield-based outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops is growing its reach in California.

The company is targeting a 2028 launch for a new Outdoor World store in La Mesa, California, which is part of the greater San Diego region, according to a news release.

"With access to both saltwater and freshwater fishing, this area offers something truly special, and we look forward to helping families and friends enjoy it together," Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris said in the release.

The 148,000-square-foot store would be located at the Grossmont Center. It would have access via the intersection of State Route 125 and Interstate 8.

The store would be Bass Pro's sixth in California. Bass Pro's website lists 182 stores, some of which are under the Cabela's name, in the United States and Canada.

Bass Pro plans to employ more than 150 people at the new store in La Mesa, according to the release.
