Bass Pro Shops has confirmed plans to build a 14th store in the Sunshine State.
Construction of the Sarasota, Fla., store
previously had been reported by local media outlet the Herald-Tribune in May ahead of the official July 7 announcement by Bass Pro.
The Springfield-based outdoor retailer now has five stores in development in Florida, including the Jacksonville metro area, Gainesville, Daytona Beach and the Tampa area.
Its latest plans call for an 80,000-square-foot Outpost store to anchor a 260,000-square-foot, mixed-use Sarasota development dubbed Fruitville Commons. Bass Pro plans to employ 200 part- and full-time workers at the store, according to a news release.
Reportedly scheduled for completion in 2016, the Bass Pro store would front Interstate 75, where the company expects 100,000 vehicles to pass the development each day. The store also will feature the nautical-themed Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl and Grill.
Bass Pro, which operates 85 stores and marine centers in the U.S. and Canada, projects some 116 million visitors this year. According to the company, an average visitor to a Bass Pro store stays 2 hours and 30 minutes and drives over 50 miles to get there.
