Bass Pro buys Indiana photographer's work for gift cards

Posted online
Bass Pro Shops selected the work of an Indiana photographer for the retailer's holiday gift cards.

What started as a Bass Pro photo contest on Facebook last year ended in the company purchasing the rights of Rushville Republican photographer Kate Thurston's picture of a log cabin in winter.

Thurston didn't even win the contest, but Bass Pro officials reached out to her months later with a surprise offer.

" I got an email from their marketing director, asking for a selling price for the photograph,” she told the Rushville paper that she works for. "They threw me a price and I took the offer."

The gift cards arrived in stores this week.
