Barrett's confirmation hearing to begin in Senate

The U.S. Senate today is scheduled to begin the confirmation hearing of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Donald Trump's choice for the Supreme Court seat left vacant by late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Barrett is slated to give her opening statement at the end of the first day.

Her planned written remarks indicate she'll tell senators that "the policy decisions and value judgments of government must be made by the political branches elected by and accountable to the people."
