Bank of America reaches agreement to dismiss discrimination suit

Posted online

Bank of America reached an agreement with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund to dismiss a discrimination lawsuit.

The class-action suit came about in May when Daniel Marques, a 27-year-old Brazilian man, claimed the company would not hire him because of his non-citizen status. Marques is permitted to work in the country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals act.

"Since the lawsuit was filed, Bank of America has demonstrated to MALDEF attorneys that company employment policies do not prohibit the hiring of work-authorized DACA recipients," MALDEF said in a statement. "Indeed, Bank of America welcomes employment applications from anyone who has work authorization, and the company has employed and continues to employ DACA holders."
