Bank of America customers will have one less banking center to frequent March 15, when the bank closes its branch at 3345 S. Campbell Ave. That location became part of Bank of America predecessor Boatmen's Bank in the early to mid-1970s, according to Kelly Polonus, Bank of America spokesperson.
"That used to be a CharterBank location, then, of course, Boatmen'sCharterBank merged and eventually became Bank of America," Polonus said.
She said Bank of America is consolidating the 3345 S. Campbell location with its banking center slightly more than a mile south at 4141 S. Campbell.
Polonus said the 4141 S. Campbell location previously was a Centerre Bank but became part of Bank of America when Boatmen's and Centerre merged.
"Those two (Campbell Avenue) locations have been looked at for some time, because they are so close together," she said.
All of the associates at the branch to be closed will have comparable jobs at one of Bank of America's seven remaining banking centers, so no jobs will be lost as a result of the closing, Polonus said.
Bank of America customers were notified about the change by letter last month.
Polonus said the bank is continually evaluating its banking center network, and it is seeing a trend of fewer customers actually going into a bank to take care of their banking needs.
"We're seeing more and more customers starting to bank online, and lots of folks, of course, are going through our (automated teller machines), making deposits as well as withdrawals," Polonus said.
She added that Bank of America now has more than 3 million customers utilizing its online banking services, including bill payment.
"Customers are discovering there's other ways to bank besides just going into a banking center," Polonus said.
