Center city Thai food restaurant Bangkok City closed early this month after 23 years in business.
In a Facebook post, officials noted the 1129 E. Walnut St. eatery closed Jan. 1.
“We sincerely appreciate the continued patronage of all of our loyal customers,” the post reads. “We have a lot of plans materializing for the future, so please stay tuned.”
The phone number to Bangkok City has been disconnected, and attempts to reach owner Sang Bealer through other means were unsuccessful by deadline.
Bealer started the restaurant with a profit-sharing and retirement package she received when Zenith
closed its Springfield plant on East Kearney Street in 1991 and laid off some 1,500 employees.
She opened the original restaurant on Park Central East that same year, later launched a second location at Glenstone Avenue and Division Street and, in 2004, merged the business into its final home on Walnut Street near National Avenue, according to the
restaurant’s website.
The Facebook post did not indicate what Bealer and her husband, Earl, would do with the Walnut Street building they own via Walnut East LLC. According to the Greene County
assessor’s website, the 0.4-acre property has a 2014 taxable appraised value of $255,200.[[In-content Ad]]
