Even the raunch raconteurs at GoDaddy should've known this wouldn't fly with viewers: An ad featuring a cute puppy getting bounced out of the back of a speeding truck, lost in bad weather and finally making its way home only to learn its owners were relieved to see it because it had been sold online.
Cue the howls of outrage from animal-welfare supporters who stormed social media to demand the ad be yanked from its Super Bowl slot. They didn't buy GoDaddy's claim the ad was intended as a humorous pot shot at the proliferation of cute-animal ads during the game, notably Budweiser's popular puppy-and-Clydesdale series.
On Wednesday, GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving blogged that the ad was being pulled in response to "candid feedback" from dismayed viewers, CNNMoney reports. GoDaddy is no stranger to upsetting animal-welfare supporters: In 2011, former GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons sparked outrage when he slaughtered an elephant in Zimbabwe.
