Education

David H. Sewell and Denise R. Maddock, students at Ozarks Technical Community College received a $1,000 scholarship through the new Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program.

Southwest Missouri State University announced several staff and faculty accomplishments. Dr. David Dixon, assistant to the president, and Janet Martin, assistant director for the Center for Research and Service, received $6,000 from the Community Partnership of the Ozarks for their project "Caring Communities Asset Mapping: Westport & Willard South." Dr. Joyce Dana, director of the Southwest Regional Professional Development Center (SWRPDC), and Lolita Albers, program coordinator of the SWRPDC, received $1,660 from the Spokane R-VII School District; $1,484 from the Forsyth R-III School District; $1,540 from the Crane R-III School District; and $1,163 from the Reeds Spring R-IV School District, for the "Southwest District Regional Professional Development Center Consortia." Dr. Heidi Perreault, professor of computer information systems, was awarded $4,000 from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for her project "Summer Business Education Workshop."

Finance

Anthony D. Lynn, a CPA from Springfield, is featured in an article entitled "Best Practices for Audit Efficiency" in the September issue of the Journal of Accountancy, a monthly publication published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Lynn is a shareholder with Davis, Lynn & Moots, P.C.

Health Care

Ann Finley, RN, CIC, infection control nurse at Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson passed the comprehensive recertification examination given by the Certification Board of Infection Control.

Insurance

Robert F. McKnight, a Fortis registered representative with McKnight Insurance Services, completed training at the Fortis 2000 "Blueprint for Success," National Sales conference in St. Paul, Minn.

Jo Ann Evans, CIC, vice president of Beimdiek Insurance Agency Inc., Carthage, was installed as president-elect of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents on July 15 at the association's annual conference in Branson.

James J. Jura was re-elected for a five-year term on the board of directors of Missouri Employer Mutual Insurance at the organization's annual meeting Aug. 1.

Real Estate

Rex Harris, broker with Queen City Realty, attended a seminar presented by the Nehemiah Foundation, and is now a certified Nehemiah specialist.

Security

Jim L. Morris of American Detection Specialists and Jim Wade of Atlas Security Systems attended the Missouri Burglar & Fire Alarm Association's conference at Tan-Tar-A resort at Lake of the Ozarks.

Travel/Tourism

Rodeway Inn in Branson received the Gold Hospitality Award from Choice Hotels. The award is given annually to hotels that exceed the quality assurance standards set forth by Choice Hotels.

Work force Development

The Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation announced three staff members who achieved credential designations. David Rutledge and Curtis Lewis, youth development specialists for OACAC, received the certified workforce development professional credential from the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals. Chuck Matthews, youth services director for OACAC, also received the CWDP credential.

The city of Springfield's Workforce Development Department announced two staff accomplishments. Mike Groves, systems administrator for the city of Springfield's Workforce Development Department, is a Microsoft Certified Professional, following completion of a series of certification tests. Flo Williams was nominated by the department for the Governor's 2000 Award for Innovation, for the creation and maintenance of the Springfield Business Web Directory, www.spfldbuswebdir.tripod.com.
