The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri announced three new board members for fiscal year 2002-03. The new board members are: Norb Bagley, CoxHealth; Mike Webb, professional fisherman; and Alan Hartley, Salomon Smith Barney. Retiring board members are Louise Henson, Big Brothers-Big Sisters; Charles Summey, local artist; and Jerry Reynolds, attorney.
Education
Ozarks Technical Community College was awarded a grant of $30,907 by the U.S. Department of Education to expand child-care services for low-income and nontraditional students. The grant creates the Child Care Access Means Parents in Schools project, which is expected to run for four years.
Government
Dean Thompson, city administrator of Republic, received the credentialed manager designation from the International City/County Management Association. Requirements for the designation are significant experience as a senior management executive in local government, completion of a degree in public administration or a related field, and demonstration of a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.
Missouri Rep. W. Craig Hosmer was honored as Representative of the Year during the Missouri Sheriffs' Association's annual Summer Training Conference. Hosmer received the award in appreciation of his loyal support of law enforcement issues before the Legislature during the 91st General Assembly.
Health Care
The American Diabetes Association recognized St. John's Health System's diabetes education program as a quality diabetes self-management education program that meets national standards for diabetes self-management education.
Seven individuals were appointed to serve on the board of directors of the newly established Skaggs Foundation, through which donations can be earmarked for services and projects at Skaggs Community Health Center. The board members are: Raeanne Presley, chairman; Phil Loyd, vice chairman; W.K. Lewis, treasurer/secretary; and members Margaret Chappell, Leon Combs, Jack Kornmeier and Bob Phillips.
Gerald Popek, pharmacist and owner of The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Springfield, recently earned the Store Image Award from Medicine Shoppe International Inc. The award is presented annually to one Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in each operations district that provides an exemplary customer service experience, based on earning the highest score on the retail operation manager's store image checklist.

Ivan and Terri Eftink, owners of Bug Zero Inc., recently attended a management conference presented by the Missouri Pest Management Association at Lake of the Ozarks.
