Chamber

Allen Kunkel, regional development manager with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, received certified economic developer status from the International Economic Development Council. It is the highest level of recognition in the economic development profession, and it is based on knowledge and experience.

Brad Bodenhausen, senior vice president of public affairs and communications with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, was elected president of Chamber of Commerce Executives of Missouri during the organization's annual meeting held September in Joplin.

Education

Students at Greenwood Laboratory School received 12 copies of a newly released spelling program, |quot|Spelling Evaluation for Language and Literacy,|quot| in appreciation for their help in the development of the software. Students last year participated in a validation study in which their spelling tests were hand-scored by experts in spelling development and disorders and also scored by the software so that the compatibility of the two methods could be compared. Dr. Julie Masterson, professor of communication sciences and disorders at Southwest Missouri State University, is one of the software's three authors.

Palm Beach Atlantic University honored Springfield educator Dr. Philip Rothschild, class of 1985, with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Rothschild, assistant professor of management and director of the entertainment program at SMSU, also is the managing partner and owner of Oasis Communications and co-founder of WomensMinistry.Net, an online magazine for women.

Engineering

Heideman + Associates Inc. was awarded a one-year land-surveying contract with City Utilities. The firm will provide CU with professional land surveying services encompassing easement, topographic, route and boundary survey, and any other type of survey work during the contract period, which ends Sept. 30, 2003.

Finance

Bonnie Murdock, loan review officer with Citizens National Bank of Spring-field, attended a recent three-day Missouri Bankers Association Compliance Confer-ence at Tan-Tar-A. Compliance issues affecting security and privacy were the primary topics of discussion during the event.

Government

Missouri Speaker of the House Jim Kreider received the Defender of Education Award from the Missouri Federation of Teachers and School Related Personnel and a number of other Missouri educational associations.

Media

Television station KYTV received an Emmy Award for Overall Excellence at the 26th Annual Emmy Awards event held in St. Louis. The National Association of Television Arts and Sciences awards the Emmy to recognize outstanding achievement, and to encourage continuing excellence in the television broadcast industry. The St. Louis/Mid America Chapter includes television professionals in Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky and Louisiana.
