MRI of Springfield in Castle Gate, 1420 E. Bradford Pkwy., received a three-year accreditation for its second magnet from the American College of Radiology. According to a news release from MRI of Springfield, the ACR awards accreditation to MRI practices for achieving high standards, which are determined during a voluntary evaluation by ACR. The evaluations are conducted by ACR-member radiologists and physicists who have special MRI expertise. Evangel University's student media received two awards at the 2001 Society for Collegiate Journalists National Contest. ECTV, the Evangel cable television station, won third place in the broadcast features category. "The Excalibur" yearbook won second place in the categories of concept of the book, reporting in words and display. The partnership effort between the city of Springfield and Ralston-Purina Company's Canbrands Products Division received the 2001 Governor's Environ-mental Excellence and Pollution Preven-tion Award in the market development category. Between January 1999 and May of this year, Canbrands has manufactured about 17,200 tons of Yesterday's News cat litter and "Second Nature" dog litter, recycling about 12,400 tons of newspaper and mixed paper from Waste District O, a region comprised of Christian, Dallas, Greene, Polk and Webster counties. |ret||ret||tab|
Dr. Jeffrey R. Johnson, of St. John's Urology Surgical Associates, recently successfully completed the first Viadur implant in southwest Missouri. Viadur, a new treatment for patients with advanced prostate cancer, is a tiny tube implanted in the upper arm. Boys & Girls Town of Missouri received a $10,000 grant from the Southwest Missouri Visiting Nurse Association Foundation. Southwest Missouri State University's Iota Beta chapter of the Theta Chi fraternity received the Howard R. Alter Award for Chapter Excellence at the recent annual Chapter Leadership Conference at the University of Maryland. Theta Chi member Matt Frauenhoffer, a senior professional writing major from Florissant, was named a finalist for the Reginald F.
