The American Lung Association of Western Missouri was awarded $2,700 by the Visiting Nurse Association Foun-dation for Teens Against Tobacco Use. The money was donated to help prevent lung disease and promote lung health.|ret||ret||tab|

For the sixth year in a row, the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch of Brighton received $350,000 in Neighborhood As-sistance Program tax credits from the Missouri Department of Economic Development. The Neighborhood Assist-ance Program was created to allow potential donors to redirect their Missouri tax dollars to local projects. |ret||ret||tab|

COPE, a not-for-profit agency in Lebanon that provides services to victims of family violence, also has received NAP tax credits. The funds from NAP donations will be used to construct and furnish a new shelter. |ret||ret||tab|

Canbrands International in Spring-field received the top honor in the eighth annual Governor's Pollution Prevention Awards, presented by Gov. Bob Holden. The plant in Springfield was established in 1999 and encourages people of the city to recycle paper, which it uses in manufacturing its animal litter products. |ret||ret||tab|

Southwest Missouri State University experienced an increase in opening day enrollment for the fifth straight year. The university opened the fall 2001 semester Aug. 20 with 16,943 students representing 83 countries, 47 states, and 114 Missouri's counties.|ret||ret||tab|

Thirteen members of the Missouri Gen-eral Assembly were honored during ceremonies at the 2001 Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar. The legislators recognized were Sen. Harold Caskey of Butler, Sen. David Klarich of Ballwin, Sen. Morris Westfall of Halfway, Sen. Roseann Bent-ley of Springfield, Rep. Don Lograsso of Blue Springs, Rep. Catherine Hanaway of Warson Woods, Rep. Ralph Monaco of Raytown, Rep. Craig Hosmer of Spring-field, Rep. Joan Barry of St. Louis, Rep. Jim Kreider of Nixa, Rep. Phil Smith of Louisiana, Rep. Matt Bartle of Lee's Summit, and Rep. Vicki Riback Wilson of Columbia. Each of these legislators received a Missouri Bar Legislative Award for supporting legislation to the state bar and for sponsoring bar-drafted legislation. |ret||ret||tab|

The board of directors of the Mercy Regional Health Foundation at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin approved a total of $110,975 in grants that will go to provide funding for local and rural health services, programs and equipment. [[In-content Ad]]
