Average CU residential electric bills to drop next month

Posted online
Starting in October, the average monthly residential electric bill for City Utilities customers will drop $8.43, based on action taken Thursday by the Board of Public Utilities.

The board approved changes to the electric fuel adjustment. CU uses the adjustment to recover costs for generation fuels and purchased energy, according to a news release.

The board also was advised Thursday of a regular change to the gas recovery adjustment factor, which also takes effect in October. The gas recovery adjustment factor is used to "true up" CU natural gas rates to actual costs, according to the release.

The new factor will reduce the price of natural gas billed to customers over the next six months by 1.53 cents per therm compared to the monthly price of natural gas. An average residential gas customer will pay $1.53 less per month because of the adjustment.
