Automakers vie for a dent in 'unminivan' market

Without much fanfare, Ford has been seeing sales gains for its "unminivan" — a passenger version of its newly redesigned Transit Connect, a small, commercial van.

"People still want the functionality, but not with the (minivan) name," says Jessica Caldwell, analyst for Edmunds.com.

According to USA Today, the success of the Transit Connect has other automakers such as Nissan and Chrysler seeking a piece of the unminivan pie.
