Auto sales fell last month even as discounts rose

Despite more discounts, auto sales fell in January.

Automakers sold 1.14 million vehicles in the United States last month, a 1.8 percent drop from January 2016.

Each of the Detroit Big 3 automakers — General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler — posted sales declines.
