Austria to turn Hitler's birthplace into police station

Austria plans to convert Adolf Hitler's birthplace into a police station.

Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in the yellow corner house in the northern town of Braunau on the border with Germany.

The building was subject to a legal battle after the family of Gerlinde Pommer, which owned the house for nearly a century, sought compensation after the government took control of the property in 2016. Government officials reportedly want to keep the building from becoming a neo-Nazi shrine.
