Australia orders Google, Facebook to share ad revenue with media

Australia is ordering Google and Facebook to share advertising revenue with domestic media firms.

The move makes Australia one of the first countries to require digital platforms to pay for content they use.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the move comes after talks with Facebook and Google parent company Alphabet failed to yield a voluntary code of conduct regarding the use of media outlets' content.
