After months of hesitation, Australia confirmed it would join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, saying intense negotiations with China and other partners had eased its concerns over how its $100 billion fund will be run.
The Wall Street Journal reports Australia eschewed pressure from the U.S. not to join the China-led organization.
Australia becomes a member along either other U.S. allies the United Kingdom and Germany.
