AT&T announced yesterday that it would bring third-generation wireless broadband network service to Springfield.

The “3G” expansion is slated to occur this year, bringing “customers access to DSL-type speeds for their laptops,” according to an AT&T news release.

Springfield is one of more than 80 cities in which AT&T (NYSE: T) is rolling-out 3G services this year, bringing its 3G services to 350 markets nationally, according to the release.

Springfield’s 3G expansion is part of AT&T’s $60 million statewide effort to enlarge its wireless network. It also will add 40 cellular sites this year in Missouri, according to the release.
